OUR HISTORY
Alfred Nobel created the Spanish Dynamite Company (Sociedad Española de la Dinamita, SED) in
Galdácano (Bilbao, Spain). The company provides mining and civil works solutions.
The SED merges with the leading company in the market sector, the Unión Española de Explosivos (Spanish Union of Explosives, UEE).
The Painting Collection is established, the forerunner of the current MAXAM Foundation.
The company begins to work with the Spanish Navy, thus starting its defense and security business line.
The temporary merger with the Spanish mining company, Riotinto leads to the creation of Unión Explosivos Riotinto.
This merger ended in 1994, when the UEE resumed its independent trajectory.
The process of international expansion begins. In only three years, the company establishes operations in five continents (2001).
Vertical integration and the global concept are a reality. The Nitrochemical business unit is founded.
The global and diversified company is now called MAXAM. The MAXAM Foundation has been created.
The strengthening of the vertical integration is reflected in the acquisition of chemical plants in Mazingarbe (France) and Tarragona (Spain).
Research in R & D within the Company advances with the inauguration of the Propellant Technology Center (Murcia, Spain), a unique institution in Europe, and the construction of the Energy Materials Technology Center in Burgos (Spain).
The Defense and Security business unit consolidates its leadership in demilitarization activity in the United States and begins the construction of the Texarkana plant (USA).
MAXAM now has 100 subsidiaries operating in over 40 countries and commercial operations in more than 100.
